Blues Chord Progressions (pp. 52–135) +
What is a progression? A progression is a sequence of chords played in order. Blues progressions are the harmonic backbone of songs—they define the chord changes you play throughout a tune. Master these and you can play hundreds of blues songs.
1. Basic 12-Bar Blues (A)
A | A | A | A | D | D | A | A | E | D | A | E |

Power chords (5ths). Raw, distorted foundation sound.

2. 12-Bar Blues with 7ths (A7-D7-E7)
A7 | A7 | A7 | A7 | D7 | D7 | A7 | A7 | E7 | D7 | A7 | E7 |

Dominant 7ths add classic blues flavor. Most common blues sound. All 12 keys included.

3. 8-Bar Blues (Multiple Variations)

Condensed form. Faster songs, quicker changes. Multiple variations emphasize different chord movements. All 12 keys included.

4. 16-Bar Blues (Multiple Variations)

Extended form. Longer phrases, more space for improvisation. Common in jazz and slower blues. All 12 keys included.

5. Jazz Blues

ii-V substitutions and altered chords. Sophisticated harmonic movement. All 12 keys included.

6. Minor Blues

Built on i-iv-v in minor. Darker, melancholic tone. Same 12-bar structure, different emotional character. All 12 keys included.

7. Shuffle Blues (6th Chords)

6th chords with rhythmic swing variations. Bouncy, bright feel. All 12 keys included.

20 Blues Strumming & Comping Patterns (pp. 160–163)

20 blues strumming patterns ranging from basic straight and shuffle rhythms to funk and country blues in 12/8 time. Comping means "accompanying"—short rhythmic chord hits that support the melody. Master these patterns to build groove, timing, and rhythmic feel.

20 Blues Fingerstyle Patterns (pp. 164–168)

20 distinct fingerstyle patterns in keys G & D, covering a range of techniques: alternate bass (thumb alternates between two strings), alternate finger (fingers alternate on one string), double pull (fingers play two strings at once), Travis picking, and triplets. Build your fingerboard vocabulary and accompaniment skills.
Blues Scales (pp. 170–193) +
What is a scale? A scale is a collection of notes in ascending or descending order. Use scales for soloing, improvisation, and creating melodies over the chord changes.
