FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BOLTON, Ontario — August 8, 2026 — Kalymi Music has launched a new free online Guitar Dictionary, giving guitarists a searchable reference for techniques, chords, scales, tunings, notation, guitar construction, equipment and traditional playing styles.

The Guitar Dictionary currently includes 154 guitar terms organized across 16 subject categories, ranging from basic concepts such as chords, frets and guitar TAB to more specialized topics including alternate tunings, slide guitar, flamenco techniques, cigar box guitar, effects and amplification.

Players can search for a specific term, browse alphabetically from A–Z or explore subjects including Picking & Fretting Technique, Chords & Harmony, Scales, Melody & Improvisation, Rhythm & Accompaniment, Tunings, Classical & Flamenco Guitar, and Slide, Resonator & Steel Guitar.

A Growing Guitar Knowledge Base

Rather than presenting hundreds of definitions on a single glossary page, each Guitar Dictionary term has its own reference page. This allows individual subjects such as alternate picking, barre chords, Open D tuning, Travis picking, vibrato and the blues scale to be explained clearly and connected with related lessons and resources.

The result is a growing guitar knowledge base that can be used both for quick reference and as a starting point for deeper study.

“Guitar terminology can become confusing very quickly because players encounter words from technique, theory, notation, equipment and different musical traditions all at once,” said Brent C. Robitaille, music educator and founder of Kalymi Music. “The goal of the Guitar Dictionary is to give players a clear place to look something up, understand what it means and then continue learning if they want to go further.”

Connected to the Kalymi Music Learning System

The Guitar Dictionary is part of a larger collection of free educational resources being developed by Kalymi Music. Dictionary entries connect naturally with guitar lessons, reference materials, books and topic hubs throughout the site.

Players who want a more guided route through the material can continue with the Guitar Learning Path, while the Kalymi Music Library brings together free chord charts, scales, tabs, tuning guides and other reference materials for guitar and additional instruments.

This connected approach allows a player to move from a simple question — such as “What is alternate picking?” or “What is Open D tuning?” — into related lessons, practice material and more complete learning resources.

Developed by Brent C. Robitaille

The Guitar Dictionary and Kalymi Music learning resources are developed and reviewed by Brent C. Robitaille, a Canadian music educator, composer, author and performer with more than 35 years of experience in music education and performance.

The Guitar Dictionary will continue to expand as additional guitar terminology, techniques and playing concepts are added.
