Book Two Chords, Fingerstyle and Theory
Play Jazz & Blues on the Cigar Box Guitar. Learning to play jazz and blues on the cigar box guitar is simultaneously easy and challenging. Easy because you only have 3 or 4 strings to worry about so fewer options than a standard 6 string guitar. Challenging because getting good full-sounding chords with 3 or 4 strings in GDG or GDGB tuning often requires more significant stretches for chords or large skips up and down the neck to play all the notes. The new two-book series "Jazz & Blues Unlimited" provides an excellent resource on both 3 and 4 string cigar box guitars covering most topics required to successfully play jazz. Book Two covers chords, fingerstyle and solo jazz and blues tunes, a chord library, jazz and blues chord progressions, theory, and walking bass.
Really awesome stuff Brent! I’ve always loved blues music and blues licks since I was a kid. I just found out about all of the CBG activity and am just starting to learn on my new 3 string box. I’ve tried full size 6 string guitars several times but never improved enough because of such short stubby fingers. Now I have lots more hope.
Big thanks for all these great riffs Brent! … Jon
